Once we found out we were having surgery, I decided I wanted to throw Max a pacemaker party to celebrate getting a new pacemaker. Surgery is such a scary thing, especially for a 3-year-old, so I wanted to try to make this as positive of an experience as possible. I wanted us to celebrate the fact that he gets to get a new pacemaker to help keep his heart healthy. Max's favorite thing in the world is cake, and what's cake without a party to go with it?! So, we threw together a party at Mimi and Pal's house with immediate family and it was a lot of fun.
Dede came in town the night before the party so she could help us celebrate
I wanted to make sure Max could go swimming and show off his new swimming skills one more time before surgery. It would be the last time for him to swim this season because he can't swim for a while after surgery.
He loved blowing out the candles on his cake until we discovered that Mimi accidentally put "trick candles" on there. Every time he would blow them out they would light back up again. Poor buddy had a terrible time trying to blow them out just so he could eat his cake! Silly Mimi!
Then we let Tressa Kate and Max taste the icing to make sure it was ok for the rest of us to eat;)
Then we opened presents. Dede got Max a movie, some baseballs, and suckers (all of his favorites).
Tressa Kate, Uncle Eric, and Aunt Chelsea got Max a "Jake and the Neverland Pirates" doll to take to the hospital with him. Jake and the Neverland Pirates is his new favorite cartoon, so he was really excited about it. They also let him borrow TK's portable DVD player so he can watch movies at the hospital. Nana also came and hot him a really cool Veggie Tales toy car and a Veggie Tales movie.
Watching a movie together on the porch swing (their new favorite spot).
On the day before surgery, Tripp and Jess came over to wish us luck and to give Max a Superman t-shirt. That was so sweet and he loved playing with Tripp!
Walker came over too and gave Max some new books and an awesome "Super Max" superhero cape and mask. Max is so blessed to have such good buddies!
